Singapore - Bike Porn

Traveling the wide shouldered, manicured Malaysian highways requires much less attention to potential hazards along the road than her neighboring nations. Much less than any other routes thus far.

In turn, my mind wonders. Daydreaming is for now apart of my cycling routine.

I think about many o' things: what type of career will I stay passionate about, (watch for the merging car); where will I apply to graduate school, (notice the keen dog on the left); how can I own my own life, (I wonder how amazing a strawberry banana milkshake might taste if I dropped in a half an avocado)?

Non-sequitur, I know.

Yet, whatever uncertainties I wrestle with vanish when meeting people who indeed own there own lives. They've figured it out. Most, against "the plan's" grain. I love to chat with these people, I appreciate the risks they take. I do envy them.

Like this friend of Joni's. He has his car restoration business that profits him at least enough surplus cash to continue building his vintage bicycle collection. It's a good life. Below are the fruits of his labor.

And now the main attractions. We will walk upstairs to where bikes are reinvigorated, re-assimilated, and soon to be relocated! (Thank you to all who caught that movie reference).

The entrance to the second floor shop. Cars on bottom, bikes on top.

A Colnago steel frame racing bike here with full Campagnolo component sets. A black classic beauty. Just a bit too small for me, or I would have snatched her up.

That's a 1990 Bridgestone RB2 Synergy in front, fully restored and sadly collecting dust.

Building a strong collection is not all about acquiring rare brand names and searching for original components. It's about the details. Take a close look at the top and seat post tube on this beauty. No photo distortion. The bike is manufactured with a curved frame.

Why have these water bottles gone out of style? Got my vote - bring 'em back people!

Complete Colnago classic frame...

Crank set...

and check out this embroidered Colnago saddle! Rad!

And now some old school contenders.

Yup - that is an updated, black and yellow penny-farthing type cycle. You really just don't see these types of bike models anymore unless you travel in retro cyclo circles or hidden Singaporean bike restoration chopshops.

Still in Singapore with a devil on my shoulder. Enjoy the pictures, I'm off to contemplate my future over a banana split Sunday.

Love,
-A
