Japan Day 27 - Morning Mountains, A Straight Shot To Kyoto

"How's the knee?" and, "how'd you sleep?" are the morning questions of the day. Sisters knee either hurts or it's fine. She cycles either way; like I said, team player; won't hold everyone down unless it's something tremendously serious. "We should stretch, at least." "I agree."

I actually slept very well. I fell asleep just a few sentences into the story we listened to as we planed to fall asleep last night. Now rested, time to stretch. Feels good!

Mom hates the idea of cheese for breakfast. And, cheese does slow you down as a cycling machine, it's slow to digest and heavy. But it tastes so goooood, couldn't help but to give in this morning when the picture of it stared me down from the menu.

Snack/lunch. Digging into rice and breaded, fried meat right after the cheesy breakfast sounds horrible from a perspective of healthy diets. Sure, no argument. But, I've don't the math. And even after this and what else we are today, we are still pushing out more calories than we are consuming. Even sister admits that she is thinning out a bit.

The road to Kyoto along the 24 highway is a blessing. We opted for this route after deciding that riding through Osaka would just take too long. After all, we also suspect that one reason sisters knee hurts is from all the stopping and going of traffic light pacing (placing her right knee down at each red light, multiplied scores of times, contributes to the pain).

Route 24 came without many cars, wich is ideal. Taking the smaller highways is always a good idea. The less time you spend looking for large metal, flammable, gasoline propelled pieces of machine shooting past you, the more time you have to enjoy the mountains and streams about you. It also means we get to cross awesome narrow bridges like this one =)

Long and narrow. Built well, unlike that time I was in....

We made it - phew!! That was a long day of cycling. We saw it all; mountains, shrines, rivers, and cities. Now we've arrived here, at our first room acquired through the Air BnB project. Late, tired, and a little hungry, I am so proud we made it to Kyoto on schedule. Sister really pulled through. Now, my eye lids won't let me finish typing with them open any longer....

What is the offset of cycling through Osaka traffic? We climbed mountains before hitting Kyoto prefecture limits. It whent slow, it was hot (second day of wearing only shorts and cycling jearsy!) and sometimes we paused for water or to take off sweaters along the way, but we made it! Just keep grinding....

Buenas noches, and happy birthday to all those Aries out there.
